Here s how many South Africans say they will take a Covid-19 vaccine

January 26, 2021 Vaccine Source: Google Images The Centre for Social Change (CSC), University of Johannesburg (UJ) and the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) have published a new research briefing on the public’s willingness to take a Covid-19 vaccine, and reasons for their decision. The findings are based on the UJ/HSRC Covid-19 Democracy Survey, undertaken between 29 December 2020 and 6 January 2021, which polled 10,618 participants. Findings were weighted by race, education and age, and are broadly representative of the population at large. The questionnaire was available in the country’s six most widely spoken languages. The findings show that the majority of respondents are willing to take a vaccine.

Only 10% of those who would not take it referred to conspiracy theories. A survey by the University of Johannesburg, in partnership with the Human Sciences Research Council, has shown that two-thirds of the country s adult population will be willing to take the Covid-19 vaccine.  The survey, done by UJ s Centre for Social Change and the HSRC s Developmental, Capable and Ethical State, used 10 618 participants and found that 67% would definitely or probably take a vaccine if it was available, while 18% of adults would definitely or probably not take a vaccine.

UJ, in partnership with the Human Sciences Research Council’s (HSRC) Developmental, Capable and Ethical State (DCES) research division, made the findings on Monday after undertaking an online study among just over 10 000 participants, between December 29 and January 6.
