The nationwide vaccination campaign to immunize adults against COVID-19 is now well underway after a series of false starts and severe supply disruptions.
Nearly four months to the day after the first Pfizer shots were given to a small group of health care workers in Toronto, the provinces and territories have now administered roughly nine million doses of the three authorized products developed by AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer.

Moderna slashing vaccine deliveries to Canada, but Pfizer steps up with 8 million more doses
Moderna will send far fewer COVID-19 shots to Canada this month than originally planned as the company grapples with production issues at its facilities in Europe. But its main competitor, Pfizer, has said it will send millions more doses to Canada in May, June and beyond a commitment that will more than cover the shortfall from Moderna.

The federal government is buying more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech as it moves to offset reduction in supply from another producer. And while it offered to help Ontario distribute its shots, the hot-spot province turned down that assistance.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Friday a contract with Pfizer for eight million additional doses of their vaccine hours after Canada said Moderna would slash its deliveries in half through the rest of April.
The increase in Pfizer supply is coming at a time when COVID activity is rapidly spreading in parts of the country, including Canada s most populous province.
