It’s not uncommon for a company new to the federal marketplace to be elated with their award of a phase 1 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract.
If it’s the first time breaking through, it should be cause for celebration for the awardee. In particular, the Defense Department and other government agencies can appear like a challenging labyrinth that requires understanding unique conditions and language to navigate.
A $50,000 or $100,000 award for a company that has been toiling with a new concept or technology may be the critical first step to the big leagues of sustained federal sales.

The No. 1 reason is to protect your company from unscrupulous people or organizations that want to hold your data for ransom, deliberately harm your company or steal your information. Another reason could be that your company wants to pursue contracts with the Department of Defense (DOD) and other federal agencies. Or, perhaps your company is interested in going after future Small Business Innovation Research or Small Business Technology Transfer contracts, or Other Transactional Agreements.

Interested entrepreneurs and businesses located in the Commonwealth can visit www.cnmiptac.com to register and become a client with CNMI PTAC to participate in the range of training and businesses services.
Clients of CNMI PTAC are offered the opportunity to participate in training seminars on topics such as navigating federal contract procurement processes, learning about subcontracting opportunities, and making your business competitive when bidding for federal government contracts, among others. Services and upcoming trainings are available on the website at www.cnmiptac.com/services
According to a University of Wyoming press release, Wyoming’s premier government contracting event for small-business owners and entrepreneurs will feature expert speakers, networking opportunities and valuable assistance from several entrepreneurial organizations.
Registration is now open for the virtual 2021 GRO-Biz Conference March 9-11. The event is offered at no cost and focuses on providing training, resources and matchmaking opportunities to help Wyoming businesses expand markets to federal, state and local government agencies.
The GRO-Biz Conference is a partnership among the Wyoming Procurement Technical Assistance Center, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Wyoming Business Council, the University of Wyoming and the Wyoming Small Business Development Center Network.
