The Supreme Court yesterday (28 January) asked the Congress Member of the Lok Sabha from Thrissur in Kerala to show the specific provision in the new agricultural laws that prevented farmers from getting the minimum support price (MSP) for their produce.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde sought this response after the Congress MP T N Prathapan filed a petition saying farmers cannot survive without MSP.

Yielding some ground to end the nearly two-month-long protest by thousands of farmers on the National Capital borders, the Centre on Wednesday proposed to suspend the three contentious farm laws for one and a half years, and set up a committee to look into the future course of action over the legislations. The proposal was made during the tenth round of talks between the two sides.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar will be taking part in the protests against farm laws on January 25. State minister Nawab Malik said that some farmer organisations have decided to hold protests in Mumbai between January 23-25. Sharad Pawar will take part in the protest to be held at Azad Maidan (in south Mumbai) on January 25. The NCP has opposed the farm laws. The chief minister and leaders of the ruling MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) will also take part, said Malik, the national spokesperson of the NCP.
The union leaders said that farmers are not going to hold their rally on Rajpath and in other high-security areas to avoid disruption in the Republic Day parade and will hold a peaceful rally
