While NASA s OSIRIS-REx mission spent more than two years orbiting Bennu, it was able to gather unprecedented information as well as a sample that is currently heading back to Earth. The sample will arrive in September 2023.
Scientists have fine-tuned the path of the asteroid Bennu and say the odds of it smacking into Earth are higher than previously thought but still quite low.
While the odds of a strike have risen from 1-in-2,700 to 1-in-1,750 over the next century or two, scientists now have a much better idea of Bennu’s path.
