PDP: Young professionals need access to land

The Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) is intent on making land more accessible for young people if successful in the January 25 THA election.
In a live discussion on its Facebook page on Wednesday, PDP deputy leader Farley Augustine and Providence/Mason Hall/Moriah candidate Ian Whitey Pollard lamented the lack of realistic opportunities for young people to own land.
Augustine, who is seeking a second term as the electoral representative for Parlatuvier/L Anse Fourmi/Speyside seat, said the discussion is relevant to his personal experience as well.
Augustine, 35, said he too is struggling to own a home as the market is priced out of his range.

Ahead of the January 25 Tobago House of Assembly elections, Farley Augustine, deputy leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots, unveiled a 12-point plan to revitalise Scarborough.
The plan caught his PNM rival for the seat, Marslyn Melville-Jack, flatfooted.
Mr Augustine s move was a bold and statesmanlike one, offering up fully considered ideas for an overdue revamp of the capital of Tobago. The plan offered a coherent strategy for consideration, not piecemeal fodder tossed from the election podium to stir crowds that can no longer gather safely.
The PDP candidate s plan includes major projects for the ferry terminal and infrastructure improvements to nearby tourist attractions that are long overdue for attention and renovation. His plans to expand the boundaries of Scarborough, provide traffic relief and to revitalise the town s botanical gardens are also notable.

Out of the 12 electoral districts in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections, the Lambeau/Signal Hill area has the unique distinction of being the only one to have supported the People’s National Movement (PNM) since electoral politics began in 1980 in Tobago.
In political terms, it’s a safe seat.
In 1980, William McKenzie took it, holding on to it until 2013 when he handed over the task to Jomo Pitt. Pitt resigned in June 2020.
For the January 25, 2021 elections, the PNM’s Tobago Council leader and prospective candidate for the area, Tracy Davidson-Celestine, hopes to continue McKenzie’s legacy.

The Progressive Democratic Patriots party has identified a 12-point plan to revitalise Scarborough, if the party is elected in the January 25 Tobago House of Assembly elections. Farley Augustine, PDP deputy political leader, believes these plans will return the island’s capital to its “glory days.”
In the second series of Primetime with Farley Augustine, featuring candidate for Calder Hall/ Scarborough Trevor James, on Sunday, the party narrowed in on the underdevelopment of Scarborough over the years. James discussed expanding Scarborough’s boundaries, addressing traffic congestion and modernising the area to promote business activity.

If elected chief secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly, Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) candidate Farley Augustine promises to dedicate two evenings per month to host adult literacy classes.
At Primetime with Farley Augustine: Transforming Tobago streaming series on social media, on Tuesday, the former English teacher at Speyside High School said the goal is to have a robust programme that will demonstrate the importance of literacy. He said this will aid THA employees who are struggling with basic reading and writing skills.
