WASHINGTON â As President Biden huddled with 10 Republican senators in a marathon Oval Office meeting Monday night, liberals across the nation held their breath.
On the campaign trail, Biden often touted his ability to cut deals with Republicans, and progressives worried this was the moment when the new president would begin hacking away at his sweeping $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief proposal in the name of bipartisanship.
But what happened next has â for the most part â heartened progressives and built some fledgling trust in Biden among a wing of the party thatâs long been suspicious of him.
A group formed in the wake of the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol is putting up billboards around the country calling for the resignation of several Republicans.
Biden has now signed about 45 executive orders, memorandums or proclamations enacting or at least initiating major policy shifts on a wide array of issues, including the coronavirus pandemic, racial justice, immigration, climate change and transgender rights.
