FG to bring back Nigerians detained in Saudi Arabia soon – Boss Mustapha

Daily Post Nigeria Published The Federal Government has opened diplomatic channels on the plight of Nigerians awaiting deportation from Saudi Arabia. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha said this at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing on Monday in Abuja. Mustapha, the Chairman of the PTF on COVID-19, said that “Nigeria is currently working with the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the deportation of 600 Nigerians.” He said that the deportees were expected to arrive in two batches on Jan. 28 and 29 and would be quarantined for 14 days in line with COVID-19 protocols.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, NGF, Kayode Fayemi, on Monday, stated that Fulanis have also been victims of kidnappings and banditry just as other tribes of the country are currently facing the same menace. Fayemi, who also doubles as the Governor of Ekiti State, stated this during a meeting of some governors with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) over the order by the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to herders to vacate forest reserves in the state. According to Fayemi, the issue of insecurity should be tackled frontally instead of profiling a particular ethnic group or tribe.

Matawalle said: “As soon as the boys were kidnapped, we stepped in. We reached out to repentant bandits in the state. Negotiations were made and that was how they were released. The boys were released in Zamfara before they were moved to Katsina.” The Governor also said the reign of bandits in Northern Nigeria will come to an end if all governors in the region formed an alliance to destroy their (bandits) camps in Zamfara State. Describing Zamfara as the epicentre of banditry in the north, the governor said while dialogue had worked to some extent, not destroying the bandits camps most especially in Zamfara remained a risk to ending their activities.
