A retired lieutenant colonel who serves as a volunteer helicopter pilot in Limestone County has reunited with an âold Army buddyâ from his training days more than 32 years ago.
In 2019, Robert Spuhl of Harvest was invited to join the Limestone County Sheriffâs Office to help fly the OH-58C helicopter that was donated as part of the 1033 program that supplies law enforcement agencies with surplus military equipment.
âThe FAA tail number is â44 Lima Charley.â I recognized the original registration number during a maintenance records check as âan old Army friendâ I flew in flight school at Fort Rucker more than three decades ago,â he said.

WASHINGTON: Two variants of the SPY-6 radars have completed a series of tests at the Navy’s Wallops Island test facility in Virginia, which prime contractor Raytheon says was necessary to keep the program’s development on track.
The testing, which occurred earlier this year, was focused on demonstrating new functionalities for both variants and will allow testing to advance to multi-functional operations and combat management system integration.

The Program Executive Office for Aviation Combat Aviation Brigade Architecture Integration Lab conducted its first Technology Insertion Event, June 21-25.
The eventâs purpose was to incorporate maturing technologies and products from selected industry vendors into a simulated aviation force to explore and examine their relative operational value.
The CABAIL staff teamed with groups from the Redstone Test Center and the Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center to develop, organize and conduct this event. Aircrews and staff personnel from Army National Guard units of three states (Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina) provided the personnel for the event.
