Call for Artists: City of Nelson Art Rental Program 2021

by Contributor on Friday April 09 2021 The City of Nelson and its Cultural Development Committee are pleased to announce the continuation of the Art Rental Program, initiated in 2016. This program displays art by local and regional artists within the City’s indoor public spaces, promoting and reflecting the creative nature of Nelson.  “This program is a wonderful way to both support our talented and diverse pool of artists and bring a vibrancy to our City Hall, affirming the City’s commitment to supporting arts, culture and heritage. ” says CDC Chair Sydney Black.  The deadline for submissions is May 14, 2021. Applicants are asked to provide electronic images of their pieces, along with the medium, dimensions, value and artist bio. All artwork must be suitably framed and ready for hanging.

Update: DeSoto City Manager Brandon Wright Reports to Citizens DESOTO ENACTS WATER BILL RELIEF TO RESIDENTS IMPACTED BY WINTER STORM At the Tuesday March 2, City Council meeting, Council approved a Resolution authorizing the City Manager to provide a Winter Water Infrastructure Preservation Credit to all City of DeSoto water and sewer utility bills. The purpose of the program is to support residents and businesses from unexpected high water charges due to increased water consumption during Texas’ Winter Storm. During its February 23, City Council voted to unanimously to approve a resolution to waive all storm damage-related permit fees for home and business property repairs related to the winter storm. This includes waiving the standard fees for building inspections and fees associated with repairing damage caused by the weather. This relief is being provided through the end of April 2021.

Official Opposition Critic for Seniors, Matt Love says, “Premier Moe and his government’s policy on seniors’ care in this province has been ‘out-of-sight, out-of-mind’.” He says, “Their treatment is nothing short of inhumane.” Love says Saskatchewan is one of the only provinces in Canada that does not conduct unannounced inspections, and the province has no provincial care standards in place to protect residents.
