Union Minister and in-charge of DDC elections in J&K for the BJP Anurag Thakur has campaigned extensively in these polls. In an interview with The Tribune a confident Thakur said people of Jammu and Kashmir had given a decisive mandate and BJP would emerge the “No. 1 party” and form the next DDC committees . Excerpts:
Q. What is your assessment of BJP’s current situation in J&K?
A. People have defeated the ‘Gupkar Gang’ by participating in these elections, not just participating but also voting in huge numbers. Elections have been free and fair with full participation of the people, reinforcing that the ballot is mightier than bullet. Our campaign has been only about development and our track record under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We have seen how the Gupkar Gang discouraged citizens from participating in the electoral process, creating an atmosphere of fear. The voting percentage used to be barely 3-5%, today it is 40-5
