3 free LPG cylinders likely again for Ujjawala subscribers
Government may examine a proposal to extend provision of free LPG cylinders for Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries for three months again in FY22 to provide relief to over 83 million BPL households from rising price of the cooking gas.
The 14.2-kg cylinder s price has risen by over Rs 125 per cylinder since January in the wake of a global price hike. This has taken up the price of a LPG cylinder to Rs 819 from Rs 694 in January. In fact since May last year the price of cooking gas has risen by Rs 237.50 in Delhi.

In July 2020, soon after the Covid-19 lockdown was lifted, 62-year-old Dukhan Singh fractured his leg when a wall collapsed on him in Ukamar village in Jharkhand’s Latehar district. As a small farmer with a meagre income, he had to borrow more than Rs 10,000 from relatives to pay his hospital bills. He planned to pay off his debts through the pension of Rs 1,000 that he is entitled to receive under a central government welfare scheme for senior citizens.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday demanded that the government withdraw the three contentious farm laws over which the farmers have been agitating for the past over two months and urged it not to make it a prestige issue.
The government and opposition reached an agreement over a discussion on farm laws and arrived at a consensus to discuss the issues relating to farmers’ protest for 15 hours as part of the Motion of Thanks to the President’s speech to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament.
