Updated: 9:08 PM EST Feb 22, 2021 A man who died while swimming in an icy Wareham pond has been identified by authorities. Crews first responded to the scene near 786 County Road at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday following reports that someone went through the ice and into the water, described by the fire department as a pond used to flood cranberry bogs.Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz says Wareham police officers and firefighters attempted to find the man, but they were unsuccessful and requested additional assistance.Emergency personnel searched until 11:45 p.m. Sunday when the search was postponed due to time and weather conditions. The Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Unit and members of the Plymouth County Dive Team continued to search for the man Monday morning.Cruz says the man s body was found at about 12:45 p.m. Monday along the shoreline under a thick layer of ice.The victim, identified as 44-year-old Thomas Bartholomew, of Wareham, was prono
