With a 2-1 win Tuesday night the Charlottetown Islanders completed a sweep of Acadie-Bathurst Titan to win the Maritime Division of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The Seattle Kraken made franchise history today, announcing the addition of the first player in the team’s young history.
The Kraken officially joined the NHL as a full-member franchise on April 30, after paying the final $650 million expansion fee. It means that the team can now do things like sign and trade for players, attend league meetings, vote on rule proposals, and receive confidential league information.
Most of the players that will take to the ice for the Kraken next season will be acquired on July 21 in the expansion draft. Until then, expect the franchise to make small moves like the one announced today.

The Seattle Kraken have their Reid Duke. The newest NHL franchise signed the first player in franchise history, inking Luke Henman to a three-year, entry-level contract. Henman was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2018 but was never signed, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Kraken GM Ron Francis was actually already gone from the Hurricanes organization when it picked Henman, but he is obviously familiar with the player. He released a short statement on his first signing: Our scouts have been watching players all year. In this case, Mike Dawson has been a strong supporter for Luke. Robert Kron and Tony McDonald like him too.

NEW YORK The New York Rangers’ managerial shakeup is complete.
New general manager Chris Drury fired Coach David Quinn and three assistant coaches Wednesday after they missed the playoffs with one of the NHL’s up-and-coming teams. The move is the first major one from Drury, who took over last week after the team fired popular president John Davidson and GM Jeff Gorton to start the front-office overhaul.
In a brief statement issued by the team, Drury thanked Quinn and the others and said the Rangers will begin a search for a new head coach immediately.
