Malawian UK-based Yamikani Guba attains World Taekwondo Kukkiwon 5th Degree/Dan Black Belt

Malawian UK-based Taekwondo Master Yamikani Guba, who is captain for the British Army Taekwondo team since 2010, has successfully passed the World Taekwondo Kukkiwon 5th Degree/Dan Black Belt. The grading was held in Aldershot at the Combat Sports Centre on June 25, which was conducted by a panel of highly graded Masters that includes head coach and director of Wessex Taekwondo senior Master John Harrison. Master Yamikani Guba Master Harrison is also the head coach the the UK Armed Forces Taekwondo team, which is the highest ranked in the British Army. Master Guba said he was “humbled and proud to be the first Malawian on the world map in Taekwondo grades”.

Boltsalt netball league bounces back: Official launch set April 17

After a one year break without action which was a result of the global Covid 19 pandemic,  the much awaited K8 million Boltsalt netball league is finally back as the the launch for this year’s competition is expected to take place on April 17 2021. Zomba Airwings are defending champions According to a  statement  released by the Southern Region Netball Committee (SRNC) on Thursday the competition which is going into it’s  second year will involve 13 districts from the South who are expected to register atotal of 10 teams per district. SRNC chairperson Judith Chalusa confirmed to Nyasa Times that all the preparations for the competition  are almost over and that  teams should get ready for the action.

Doctors president Mithi: Call for volunteer scheme The doctors made the call in a statement  barely a day after President Lazarus Chakwera admitted that the country’s health system had been “overwhelmed” by the surge. “The situation is quite desperate,” he said, laying out plans to recruit about 1380 personnel and open field hospitals in an effort to manage  the virus pandemic. Chakwera said in the televised speech monitored on taxpayer-funded Malawi Broadcasting Corporation  on Sunday that the health system is no fit-for-purpose partly blamed on decades of neglect and plunder.
