PRINCETON A man claims Bluefield State College and its president, Robin Capehart, violated the Freedom of Information Act and the Open Governmental Proceedings Act when they continued negotiations into the acquisitions of Bluefield Regional Medical Center without giving the public notice.
Jay Folse filed the lawsuit against the school, Capehart and the city of Wheeling after they violated the Open Governmental Proceedings Act by continuing the negotiations on Dec. 4. Folse alleges that the agenda for that day s meeting only included three items, none of which were the Bluefield Regional Medical Center, according to a complaint filed in Mercer Circuit Court.

Princeton Community Hospital in Mercer County is hoping an agreement with a local college will help support more training for new nurses and address the healthcare shortage in the region.
Bluefield State College (BSC) is purchasing the former site of Bluefield Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and the surrounding 68 acres.
Bluefield State came to agreement with Princeton Community Hospital on Monday. The hospital acquired the medical center in October 2019 and has continued to offer some medical services from there.
According to a release from Bluefield State, the college plans to lease portions of the facilities to PCH. The hospital will maintain the Emergency Division and related medical services.

BLUEFIELD â Bluefield State College is purchasing the former Bluefield Regional Medical Center and will use the facility to provide a dorm and instruction space for its Health Science programs.
The Princeton Community Hospital Board of Directors approved the sale and transfer of the property to BSC during its meeting Thursday evening at the Chuck Mathena Center.
The motion, made by board member Dr. Joe Ellington, said the purchase will include the entire facility as well as 67 acres at its location on Cherry Street in Bluefield.
Ellington said BSC will then lease back part of the facility to PCH for its emergency department, which will continue operations at the site.
