Apex court orders reconstruction of Hindu temple

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB) to start reconstruction of the Hindu temple that was damaged by a mob in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) last week and suggested the money for repairs be footed by the perpetrators.
A three-member bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar heard a suo motu case regarding the burning of the temple in Karak, during which the court gave a number of directives to the ETPB, a federal body founded in 1960 to look after the “Evacuee Trust Properties / Land left over by the Sikh/Hindus who migrated to India during partition in 1947-48”, according to its official website.

Peshawar (Pakistan), Jan 1 (IANS) After angry mob in Pakistans Khyber Pukhtunkhwa provinces Karak district, attacked and vandalized the shrine of a Hindu saint in Terri area of Karak; Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced reconstruction of the Hindu temple, along with launching a crackdown against the attackers.
Chief Minister Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) Mahmood Khan has issued instructions to relevant authorities to ensure reconstruction of the Hindu temple, while police authorities have arrested at least 45 people, including three notable clerics, who were nominated.
Among the nominated religious clerics, a local leader of religious political party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Rehman Salam Khattak, has also been arrested.

KARAK: The police on Thursday arrested 31 people, including a local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), for attacking and burning the shrine of a Hindu saint in Teri area of Karak district the previous day.
Enraged protesters had attacked and set on fire the Samadhi (shrine) of Shri Paramhans Jee Maharaj on Wednesday as they objected to its expansion.
The police sources said Rehmat Salam Khattak, a leader of Maulana Fazlur Rehman-headed JUI-F, was arrested by the police from his house in Chokara area of Takht-i-Nusrati Tehsil as he had allegedly participated in a meeting before the attack on the shrine. Khattak had joined the JUI-F after quitting the PML-N and unsuccessfully contesting election on its ticket.
