LAC looking for personal stories for mental health PSAs   Last updated 6/3/2021 at 11:21am The Hill County Behavioral Health Local Advisory Council is looking for 10 to 12 people in the community who are willing to share their mental health or addiction stories of struggle and recovery for their new series of PSAs they hope to play in the area. LAC Chair Andi Daniel said the organization’s aim is to normalize mental health struggles and say it’s OK to seek help through local people telling their own stories. Daniel said she believes seeing and hearing from people in the community will be more effective than just using national PSAs.

Montana Actors Theatre bringing Shakespeare to Havre   Last updated 4/27/2021 at 11:26am Montana Actors Theatre isn t going to let the COVID-19 pandemic stop local youth from having a creative outlet. Beginning in May, MAT will begin a new workshop, Intro to Classical Theatre, Shakespeare, and Stage Fighting, as part of a variety of youth programs. While not specific to the May workshop, auditions for an outdoor performance of A Midsummer Night s Dream are open to all. So, students are being prepared.  MAT Artistic Director Grant Olson said an exact date and venue for the June performance hasn t been announced. Olson added that, typically, the auditions see a turnout of 15 to 20 youth actors. He said the play could be adapted to a world still dealing with the pandemic.

Montana Actors Theatre is finding ways to keep performing   Last updated 4/21/2021 at 10:35am Montana Actors Theatre is continuing to find ways to perform after the COVID-19 pandemic derailed its planned season last year. The pandemic hit Montana, and the college campuses in the state including Montana State University-Northern s were closed, the week MAT was planning to open its production of Mama Mia. That production and the MAT dinner theater and its planned production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory all were postponed and have yet to hit the stage, but the acting troupe has stayed active with youth programs over the summer and into this year.

Montana Actors Theatre began its new youth workshops Monday in The Ryan Building, led by Youth and Children s Theater Director Angela Pratt.  The workshops will teach the basics of theater over the next year. The workshops will include auditioning, character development and basic movement; costume design and construction; intro to classical theatre, Shakespeare, and stage fighting; one acts: writing, development, and performances; light and sound; intro to puppetry; and prosthetics and makeup.
