Volunteers sought for VA programÂ
Montana VA Health Care System is looking for some special volunteers to be part of a unique program â No Veteran Dies Alone.
No Veteran Dies Alone is a program that provides a reassuring presence of a compassionate companion to Veterans who would otherwise be alone at the end of their life.
âDying is a sacred journey, and to witness and ease this transition is sacred work,â said Jessica Helms, (RN) the Clinical Care Coordinator â Inpatient Nursing/Emergency Department at MTVAHCS. âWhile the impact is significant, the qualifications are few. It simply requires your time, your presence and your compassion.â
HELENA (AP) â The Montana VA Health Care System has announced plans to open a $12 million primary care clinic at a medical center in Helena where veterans will remain in a single appointment room and each provider will come to them in a âone stop shopâ approach.
The 20,000-square-foot (1,800-square-meter) clinic at Fort Harrison VA Medical Center will serve about 5,000 veterans and provide primary care in one space designed around the integrated Patient Aligned Care Team model.
The announcement came a day after Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough announced a scheduled visit to Montana with Democratic Sen. Jon Tester this week. McDonough and Tester are expected to visit at least two VA facilities in the state.

The recently-appointed Veterans Affairs secretary visited Billings on Monday to attend a closed-door discussion with local veterans, heads of veteransâ advocacy groups and VA officials.
Secretary Denis McDonough, on invitation from Sen. Jon Tester, met with about 20 people at Montana State University Billings. He said the visit to the state is part of the VA and Biden administration s prioritizing rural health care for vets, who nationwide have shown a renewed interest in the department since the outbreak of COVID-19.
âWe think that the moment weâre in now, where weâre seeing a surge of interest in care at the VA to get vaccinations for COVIDâ¦, we think thatâs an opportunity for us to ask, to seek, other vets to come back into our system,â McDonough said after the round table talk.
