Foresee short extension of temporary suspension of UK flights into India: Aviation Minister

New Delhi, Dec 29: Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday said that he foresees a short extension of the suspension of flights from the United Kingdom to contain the spread of the new variant of coronavirus that was first detected in that country.
This comes a day after six people who had recently returned to India from the UK were found positive for the new mutant strain of the coronavirus. I foresee a short extension on this temporary suspension. I do not see the extension to be long or indefinite, Puri said while addressing media at an annual press conference on Civil Aviation.

Mr. Mukherjee, also the State Rural Development Minister, told the reporters in Kolkata the meeting has not been cancelled. Trinamool Congress leader Subrata Mukherjee said on Monday that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s public meeting in Nandigram on January 7, 2021 has been deferred due to indisposition of party MLA Akhil Giri.
Ms. Banerjee was scheduled to visit Nandigram in Purba Medinipur district, former TMC leader Suvendu Adhikari’s home turf, on January 7, 2021 to hold the public meeting.
Mr. Mukherjee, also the State Rural Development Minister, told the reporters in Kolkata, the meeting has not been cancelled.
“Since the TMC MLA who represents Ramnagar in Purba Medinipur is in hospital now, the meeting is being deferred. It will be held on a later date”, he added.

A PUBLIC meeting to be addressed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram that was to be held on January 7 has been called off. TMC senior leader Subrata Mukherjee said on Monday that the chief organiser of the programme and TMC MLA Akhil Giri has tested positive for Covid-19.
“MLA Akhil Giri from Ramnagar is the chief organiser. He has been hospitalised with Covid-19. In his absence, it is not possible to go ahead with the programme. We have postponed it for now,” Giri said.
TMC chief Mamata Banerjee was scheduled to address a public rally on January 7, 2021. The day is observed as Sahid Divas to pay tribute to those who lost lives during anti-land acquisition movement in 2007.

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend the benefits of 17 schemes to MGNREGA workers and families who are registered under the Labour department. According to reports, labourers will get benefits like pension, medical facility and housing assistance among others.
According to reports, the Rural Development department has set a target to register 20 lakh labourers working under MGNREGA with the Labour department by end of the current financial year.
Yogesh Kumar, additional commissioner MGNREGA, said that nearly 1.4 crore people have worked this year. Kumar said that Uttar Pradesh will emerge as a state providing maximum employment as it will soon register more than two million workers for MGNREGA.
