Vaccination of front line workers, other than health workers, would begin in Tiruchi district at 15 designated centres from Thursday. The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, Puthanatham Primary Healthcare Centre (UPHC), Lalgudi Government Hospital, Musiri GH, Srirangam GH, Inamkulathur PHC, Sirugambur PHC, Thuvakudi GH, Veeramachanpatti PHC, Valanadu PHC, Subramaniyapuram PHC, Vaiyampatty PHC, T. Pet PHC, Kattuputhur PHC and Woraiyur PHC have so far been registered on the Co-Win portal as session sites for the vaccination drive. A five-year-old girl died after accidentally falling into a pit filled with rainwater at Rajamanicka Pillai Nagar in K.K Nagar in Tiruchi on Sunday evening. Police identified the victim as S. Pandishree.
Pits had been dug for raising pillars for the construction of a house a short distance away from the victim’s house. The construction work was suspended due to continuous rains in the city over the past few days. The pits, which were about five feet deep, were filled with rainwater.
Police said the girl had accidentally fallen into one of the pits and drowned. Her parents launched a search after the child did not return home. Police said, said acting on an alert from a few local boys who had noticed the girl, the family members went to the spot and retrieved her and rushed her to a private hospital. The girl was referred to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

TRICHY: On the second day of the first phase of Covid-19 vaccine drive, the state health secretary J Radhakrishnan took his Covaxin shot at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy on Sunday.
After arriving at the hospital from Madurai, Radhakrishnan took the jab at 1.15am.
Speaking to reporters after taking the dose, Radhakrishnan said that he had already registered for the vaccine in Trichy.
“Healthcare administrators are a part of the first phase of Covid-19 vaccine drive. As a healthcare administrator I had already registered my name with MGMGH in Trichy. So, I took the dose today,” he further stated.
