Shares of two state-owned companies, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and HMT rallied up to 17 per cent on the BSE in intra-day trade on Wednesday, hitting their respective fresh 52-week highs, amid heavy volumes. In the past two weeks, these stocks have zoomed up to 78 per cent, against less than 1 per cent gain in the S&P BSE Sensex.
MTNL s stock surged 17 per cent to Rs 21.25 on the back of three-fold jumped in trading volumes. A combined 41 million equity shares of the telecom services provider changing hands on the counter on the NSE and BSE, till 01:06 pm.
In the past two weeks, the has stock soared 78 per cent from the level of Rs 11.92 on February 24, on reports that the Centre has identified real estate and land assets of state-owned telecom services provider to kick off the ambitious PSU asset monetisation programme.

Rana Sugars Ltd surged 20.00% to Rs 9.12 at 12:03 IST. The stock was the biggest gainer in the BSE s B group. On the BSE, 23.75 lakh shares were traded on the counter so far as against the average daily volumes of 82963 shares in the past one month.
Kirloskar Brothers Ltd spiked 18.80% to Rs 196.5. The stock was the second biggest gainer in B group. On the BSE, 2.16 lakh shares were traded on the counter so far as against the average daily volumes of 20023 shares in the past one month.

JioFiber has secured the top spot in Netflix s speed index with average speeds of 3.6Mbps in January. The streaming platform shared latest data for January 2021 along with details on countries/ regions that provide the best experience. India was part of the tier 2 list with an average of 3.4Mbps for January 2021. JioFiber is accompanied by Tatasky Broadband at the top, followed by Airtel, Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT), Excitel Broadband, Hathway, and Spectra at 3.4Mbps.
The merger process of two state-owned service providers, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), has started with BSNL taking over the latter s network in Mumbai and Delhi.
BSNL will start offering landline services in Mumbai and National Capital Region (NCR) from March this year. Initially, it was supposed to begin offering landline services in these two cities from January 1, but internal issues delayed this.
BSNL provides connectivity services across the country except for Delhi and Mumbai, which were served by MTNL. Post merger, BSNL will run MTNL s mobile and landline service as its outsourced agency.
