The 7kg of uranium is worth over Rs 21 crore. The accused had even tested the uranium at a private lab for purity. The lab is also under scanner now.
Uranium is a highly explosive material if it goes into the wrong hands and can be extremely deadly. Based on a complaint by an officer from Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) in Mumbai, an FIR has been filed and further investigations are on. A case has been registered under the Atomic Energy Act.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has seized over seven kilos of natural uranium worth about Rs 21.30 crore and arrested two persons in this connection, an official said on Thursday.
The substance is “highly radioactive and dangerous to human life”, the ATS official said quoting a report of an analysis conducted by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested two men with 7-kg of natural uranium worth Rs 21 crore in Mumbai. Uranium is considered a rare element and is highly radioactive. It is used for making nuclear explosives.
The ATS team had received information that the accused were searching for a potential buyer to sell the huge quantity to uranium. Accordingly, a trap was laid and the two were arrested.
The arrested men have been identified as Jigar Jayesh Pandya and Abu Tahir Afzal Hussain Choudhary.
Acting on specific information, the Nagpada unit of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had apprehended a 27-year-old Thane resident, Jigar Pandya, with some small pieces of the valuable substance on February 14 this year, he said. Pandya was allegedly trying to sell it illegally and was in search of a possible customer.
On Wednesday, a Special court in Mumbai, extended Mumbai police officer Sunil Mane s custody to National Investigation Agency (NIA) till May 1. Sunil Mane was taken into custody by the NIA for his alleged link into the Ambani bomb scare and Mansukh Hiren death cases.
