Mumbai: A jail staff was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly passing handwritten chits of an imprisoned gangster to the latter s henchmen in order to threaten a witness in a drugs case, a senior Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad official said on Saturday.
In 2015, the ATS had recovered 155 kilograms of mephedrone and jailed gangster Harish Mandivikar was asking his henchmen to threaten the witness in the case, he said.
NIA arrests absconding Gurjeet Singh Nijjar in Pune Khalistan case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday arrested absconding Khalistani Gurjeet Singh Nijjar in the Pune Khalistan case. Nijjar, who was hiding in Cyprus (Europe), at New Delhi Airport was arrested by NIA, the NIA said. The case was transferred to NIA from Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) who has arrested an accused linked to the Khalistan separatist movement was arrested from Chakan in Pune. The ATS had recovered firearms and ammunition from his possession. Investigation has revealed that the absconding accused Nijjar was the main conspirator of this case. Nijjar, Harpal Singh and Moin Khan were active on social media platforms and hatched a criminal conspiracy to revive Sikh militancy for the ultimate aim of formation of a separate state of Khalistan, the NIA said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad on Monday arrested notorious gangster Harish Mandvikar and three others for allegedly issuing death threats to a witness in a drug case. The ATS probe has revealed that Mandvikar, who has been lodged at Arthur Road Jail, had been sending letters to his wife and other gang members from the jail. The ATS is also probing the route through which the letters were sent out of the jail.
ATS officials said they recently received a tip-off that a Bangladesh national, Akram Khan, was involved in making forged documents and was illegally staying in Mumbai. Police laid a trap at Sewri and took him into custody. During questioning, officers learnt that the man, whose real name was Akram Noor Nabi Ollauddin Shaikh (28), hails from Bangladesh’s Noakhali district and had been staying in India without valid documents. He allegedly made forged Indian national identity cards, which he supplied to other Bangladeshis, that helped them in procuring passports. Akram revealed he got his documents made from Wadala-based Noornabi and Mohamed Rafiq Rehmatulla Sayyad (42), the mastermind of the racket. Police carried out a raid at Sayyad’s home in Mumbra and arrested him. Officers learnt that Sayyad and his three aides, ldris Mohammad Shaikh (57), Avin Kedar (35) and Nitin Nikam procured forged documents like school leaving certificates, birth certificates, fake rubber stamps, fake
