Cyclone Tauktae is set to intensify into a sever cyclonic storm over the Arabian Sea within a few hours and cause heavy rain and gusty winds to hit parts of the western coast, including Mumbai and Thane in Maharashtra, before reaching Gujarat coast by Tuesday. The India Meteorology Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert for Mumbai and Thane, meaning civic authorities must remain “updated” on the developing situation and prepare for the possible hazardous conditions.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai civic body has also made preparations. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Saturday informed about the preparedness of the civic body. The BMC has taken following measures:
All Jumbo COVID centres have been asked to remain on standby and if needed, patients will be shifted to other places.
By afternoon BMC will have an update about this if patients nees to be shifted and the civic body is watching the situation closely.

In view of IMD s warning about Cyclone Tauktae, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed the authorities in coastal districts of the state to remain alert and well-equipped to tackle the situation. Be alert and ensure rescue operation wherever necessary, Thackeray was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Chief Minister s Office (CMO) late night on Friday.
Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg districts are likely to bear the brunt of the cyclone and hence the collectors of these districts have been asked to take all necessary precautions in terms of rescue equipments and manpower, Thackeray said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has ordered officials to be vigilant and well equipped especially near coastal areas, in view of Cyclone Tauktae.
In a tweet by the Maharashtra CMO, it informed, In a meeting regarding Cyclone Tauktae, CM Uddhav Thackeray directed District Administration, Divisional Commissioners and District Collectors to be vigilant and well equipped especially in coastal areas of Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. Cyclone Tauktae near Kochi is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Saturday morning, informed the Indian navy on Friday.

Due to the deep depression formed over Lakshadweep in the Arabian Sea that intensified into a cyclonic storm Tauktae over the archipelago and adjoining southeast east-central Arabian Sea moving northwards, has caused huge damage to the coastal areas in Kerala.
With Cyclone Tauktae intensifying into a cyclonic storm today, severe floods have been predicted for the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Water levels are likely to reach danger and highest flood levels, the Central Water Commission (CWC) said on Saturday.
