Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday congratulated his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee on her party s massive win in the Assembly elections. Mamata Banerjee was fighting alone for the self-respect of the Bengali people. Her courage must be appreciated. In the end, she has won. The entire credit for this victory goes to Bengal s tigress, Uddhav said in a statement.

Opposition parties call for free and mass vaccination.
Top Opposition leaders on Sunday, in a joint statement, asked the government to focus all its attention on ensuring uninterrupted oxygen supply to hospitals across the country and undertake a mass, free vaccination programme against COVID-19.
The statement comes a day after at least 12 critical patients, including a doctor, died on Saturday at Batra Hospital, a leading private hospital in Delhi, because of an oxygen crisis.
As the next phase of India’s Covid-19 vaccination drive begins, five municipal immunisation centres in Mumbai will be administering doses to people in the age group of 18 to 44 years from May 1 onwards.

Pawar said that the state had planned a big COVID-19 vaccination event for Saturday but has only received 3 lakh doses out of which 20,000 doses have been given to Pune district.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has said that the state had planned a big COVID-19 vaccination event for Saturday but has only received 3 lakh doses out of which 20,000 doses have been given to Pune district, adding that the state government does not even have the stock to vaccinate people aged 45 and above.

New Delhi [India], May 1 (ANI): Bollywood star Varun Dhawan on Saturday joined an initiative to help procure and donate oxygen concentrators to hospitals amid the raging second wave of COVID-19.
After extending his support last year through various initiatives, the actor has now contributed to help fund the requirement across the country through this new move. He took to his Instagram handle and shared a statement revealing that the first shipment has already reached India and has been deployed at 14 hospitals.
The statement read, During uncertain times like these, our healthcare system needs utmost help. Since we know that oxygen is the need of the hour, I have contributed and partnered with @MissionOxygenIndia in their initiative to procure and donate lifesaving oxygen concentrators to hospitals across the country.
