Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 26 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday called a review meeting to discuss restarting soon Mumbai s local train services for the general public, with COVID-19 protocols in place.
Many senior officials of Railways along with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner, Mumbai police commissioner also attended the meeting.
At present, in view of the pandemic, only certain people categorised as essential workers are being allowed to board the trains with women commuters being allowed during dedicated time slots in the local trains.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday said a decision on the resumption of suburban local train services for all in Mumbai would be taken very soon. A number of options were discussed, including allowing only essential service providers to travel during peak hours from 7am to 9.30am and 4.30pm to 7pm, while allowing the public to commute strictly during non-rush hours.
The government will also suggest that private offices tweak their timings or curtail working hours, to avoid crowding in trains. Thackeray also asked the railway officials to review the Chennai pattern and how it was working.

A decision on allowing all commuters to board suburban train services in Mumbai will be taken soon , Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Monday. He made the statement after chairing a review meeting here on the issue of resumption of suburban train services, currently available only for select sections of commuters, for all members of the public.
According to an official statement, several options were discussed on allowing all passengers to use local train services in such a way that there is no crowding as the COVID-19 threat still persists. The meeting was attended by chief secretary Sanjay Kumar, the CM s principal adviser Ajoy Mehta, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, railway officials etc,the statement said.
