Mumbai: Cops record IPS Rashmi Shuklaâs statement in phone tapping case

A team from the Mumbai Cyber Police has recorded the statement of the Indian Police Service officer Rashmi Shukla in Hyderabad in connection with the phone tapping leak case. Shukla s statement was recorded over a span of two days in Hyderabad, sources informed on Monday. A probe team had visited Hyderabad a few days ago and had recorded the statement of officer Rashmi Shukla. Her statement was recorded on May 19 and May 20. In her statement she has explained her side. We will not be able to divulge much as the case pertains to Official Secrets Act, said a high ranking police officer on the condition of anonymity.
The case also pertains to alleged leaking of sensitive documents related to police postings.

The Mumbai police told the Bombay High Court on Thursday that they would not take any coercive action or arrest IPS officer Rashmi Shukla till the next date of hearing of her plea challenging an FIR registered by the police in a case of alleged illegal phone tapping.
Last month, the police issued two summons on April 26 and April 28 to Ms Shukla, asking her to appear before the BKC cyber department in Mumbai for recording her statement.
However, Ms Shukla had skipped the summons.

Senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla moved the Bombay High Court on May 3, seeking no coercive action against her in connection with an FIR registered by Mumbai police in a case of illegal phone tapping and alleged leaking of sensitive documents related to police postings.
Ms. Shukla’s advocate Sameer Nangre sought an urgent hearing of the plea, saying the petitioner, a senior IPS officer of 1988 cadre, was apprehending arrest in the case.

Rashmi Shukla, former police commissioner of Maharashtra State Intelligence unit has approached the Bombay High Court to seek its intervention to quash a First Information Report (FIR) registered by the cybercrime police station at BKC, against unknown persons or alternatively transfer the same to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Currently, Shukla is serving as additional director general of South Zone, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Hyderabad.
