The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (
MSEDCL) has joined the fight against the dreadful COVID-19 and has committed itself to providing new connections to oxygen-generating plants and hospitals on a war footing. The power company has waived off formalities that would sometimes take up to months and is now giving permissions for urgent connections within hours.
The state authorities are trying to expedite the production of
oxygen to meet its e v e r - i n c r e a s i n g demand as the second wave of COVID-19 spread its tentacles in the country, and the cases increase. This has upped the demand for new power connections as well as the load. Thus, the MSEDCL’s move can verily be lauded.

A 60-year-old owner of textile firm was sentenced two years’ rigourous imprisonment by a court in Maharashtra over power theft. The court also fined the man Rs 3 crore.
The order was passed by District Judge P P Jadhav on April 1 and a copy of it was made available on Tuesday.
If the accused fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo simple imprisonment for one more year, the court said.
