Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and Revenue Minister in Maharashtra government Balasaheb Thorat has reiterated that the Congress party strongly opposes the Shiv Sena s demand to rename the city of Aurangabad.
Speaking to India Today TV, Thorat said that the alliance government in Maharashtra wasn t formed by a single party, and all three alliance partners have a responsibility towards the government.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Maharashtra H K Patil has held discussions with senior state party leaders over a possible replacement for state Congress chief Balasaheb Thorat, in keeping with the its one person-one post formula. Thorat is currently the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president as well the revenue minister in the state s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. He is also the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader.
Patil, who is on a two-day visit to Mumbai, held discussions with senior Maharashtra Congress leader and former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday night at Sahaydri guest house here and later with Thorat over revamping of the state party unit. Besides, state PWD Minister Ashok Chavan met Patil on Wednesday morning.

Congress party in-charge of Maharashtra HK Patil on Wednesday held deliberations with leaders from Maharashtra for the appointment of new state unit chief. During his meeting, a section of senior leaders pressed for continuation of Balasaheb Thorat as the president of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) till the new national chief of the Congress party takes over after the All India Congress Committee session.
On the other hand, a few leaders made a strong case for the appointment of a new MPCC chief at the earliest especially to put on fast track the partyâs revival in Maharashtra. Some leaders suggested that leaders of other backward classes (OBC) and scheduled caste (SC) should be appointed as Thoratâs successor.
