Sleuths of the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar Police Commissionerate, apprehended a small time bookie for his alleged involvement in an online cricket betting racket in Kashimira on Saturday night. As usual the king-pin and main bookies remained unidentified.
Acting on a tip-off, received by DCP Amit Kale, a team led by Police Inspector (crime) Jitendra Patil raided a seventh-floor apartment in the Prem Nagar area of Mira Road and found the accused identified as Jatin Choksi (40) allegedly accepting bets for the T-20 cricket match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season being held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

beggars from the streets, given their susceptibility and exposure to infection. They were sent to scores of shelters set up to ensure adequate protection from the raging outbreak.
Today, even as a second wave of the pandemic crashes down on the city, the same number of homeless persons is roaming on the streets, with no authority stepping up to admit them into shelters. Besides roads, traffic lights, places of worship, railway stations and footpaths are all occupied by the destitute, milling around unchecked.

Mumbai: Over a decade ago, three sitting district judges, also members of a temple trust, were allegedly involved in a rather bizarre act of superstition and embezzlement of funds. A decade-long agitation and a favourable order by the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court has now led to the registration of a criminal case in the incident. The judges, even as they continue to preside over their respective courts across different districts of Maharashtra, are facing the inevitability of arrest.
