The Maharashtra government had imposed 15-day-long lockdown-like restrictions from April 14 to curb the transmission of coronavirus.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is expected to decide on a strict lockdown in the next two days as the present restrictions are not yielding the desired results to curb COVID-19, state minister Vijay Wadettiwar said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters here, the Relief and Rehabilitation Minister also said the state government will study the lockdown imposed by the Delhi government before taking any decision.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had last week hinted at the imposition of an extended lockdown in the state to curb the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Maharashtra is in the beginning of a second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the Union health ministry said on Tuesday in a letter to the state chief secretary based on the assessment of the central government team.

Mumbai: The number of Covid-19 cases in the state of Maharashtra is on the rise. Over 7,000 new cases were added to the tally on Sunday, February 21. The authorities in the state are resorting to some strict measures in several districts in order to control the spread of the novel coronavirus disease. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has also declared that a decision will be taken about a statewide lockdown in the next few days depending on the Covid-19 situation.

Maharashtra extends lockdown till February 28
Maharashtra government on Friday extended the coronavirus lockdown till February 28. The administration had earlier extended the lockdown restrictions in the state till January 31, 2021. Activities already allowed and permitted from time to time shall be continued and all earlier orders shall be aligned with this order and shall remain in force up to 28 February, reads the statement.
The Maharashtra government had earlier imposed a night curfew in all the municipal areas of the state.Â
A circular to this effect was issued on December 29. The state is threatened with the spread of COVID-19 virus. Therefore, to take certain emergency measures to prevent and contain the spread of the virus, the lockdown in the state has been extended till January 31, the circular said.
