MUMBAI: Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has resigned from his post, hours after the Bombay High Court asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the corruption allegations levelled against him by former Mumbai Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh, a top Nationalist Congress Party leader said here on Monday.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has appointed senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, ex-Speaker and Labour Minister Dilip Walse-Patil as the new Home Minister.
The CM also tweaked his Cabinet by handing over the Labour department to Minister Hasan Mushrif, and State Excise portfolio to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Two ministers have resigned from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of Uddhav Thackeray in Maharashtra. One has survived. Before Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh resigned from the Uddhav Thackeray government on Monday, Sanjay Rathod, the then forest minister, quit on February 28.
Param Bir Singh had sought a thorough probe by the CBI into his allegations that Deshmukh had asked arrested Mumbai police officer Sachin Vaze "to collect" Rs 100 crore per month. Singh also challenged his own (Singh) transfer to Commandant General, Home Guards.

Amidst charges of corruption levied against him by former Police Commissioner of Mumbai Parambir Singh, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has resigned from his office.
Bombay High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to carry out a “preliminary inquiry” into the allegations against him.
“I don’t have the moral right to continue in office after the court order. I have decided to quit. Kindly relieve me from my post,” Deshmukh’s resignation letter read
While speaking to reporters, NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said, “Deshmukh informed NCP chief Sharad Pawar that it won’t be appropriate to remain in the post as CBI will be probing the charges against him.
