HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - After a slow start to the season, the Lady Eagles have found their stride in January.
Southern Miss (5-5, 3-5 Conference USA) has won three straight games and itâs the young players who have led the way.
Three of USMâs top four scorers are freshmen, led by Hattiesburg High grad Melyia Graysonâs 10.8 points per game. Sheâs earned C-USAâs freshman of the week twice this season.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) Some might argue that you can’t win a basketball game in the first quarter.
But as the University of Texas-San Antonio women’s basketball team discovered Friday night, you sure as heck can lose one.
The University of Southern Mississippi dominated the Lady Roadrunners over the game’s first 10 minutes, grabbing a 22-point lead after one quarter before cruising to an 88-64 Conference USA win at Reed Green Coliseum.
University of Southern Mississippi center Melyia Grayson scored a team-high 16 points in the Lady Eagles loss Friday at Middle Tennessee State University.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - A slow start by the University of Southern Mississippi and a dominating finish by the University of Alabama-Birmingham Saturday helped keep the Lady Eagles winless in Conference USA.
The Lady Blazers led by 15 points after one period and then after the Lady Eagles spent the next 2 ½ quarters closing to within 69-63 in the fourth stanza, UAB closed out an 84-65 win on a 15-2 run.
