Apr 29, 2021 GLADSTONE The Gladstone Scholarship and Student Loan Foundation (GSSLF) announced it will be awarding $140,000 in scholarships to this year’s graduating class. This is almost double the amount of previous years. GSSLF is able to make this possible from the generous gifts of former students and community members. New this year will be several scholarships provided by the Katie VanDonsel Trust. VanDonsel was a Gladstone High School graduate. She was employed by the district for 41 years as the financial secretary. GSSLF will award several scholarships in her memory to students seeking a college degree in business or have a related interest in business. The Katie VanDonsel Trust monies also provide for a scholarship in the name of Eldon “Cappy” Keil. Keil coached basketball, football, and golf at Gladstone High School, and was inducted into the U.P. Loans available for Gladstone students GLADSTONE The Gladstone Scholarship and Student Loan Foundation will be awarding interest-free $2,000 loans to Gladstone High School graduates pursuing further education for the 2021-22 academic year. Alumni may receive up to four annual loans during their lifetimes. Applications will be available beginning May 1 in the high school office. The deadline for submission is June 11 and both parent and student signatures are required on the forms.

Normally held in person and open to the public, the show moved online again this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A virtual awards ceremony held Tuesday, April 27, honored students from eight school districts in Clackamas County who submitted artwork to this year s show. The biggest new outbreak involves 21 students and staff at Imlay City Middle School near Lapeer. K-12 school outbreaks were identified in 28 counties. Below are those outbreaks listed by county. Allegan: Wayland Union High School, four students. Benzie: Frankfort Elementary School, five staff and students.
