UPDATE: Gladstone is one step closer to being the home of one of the world s largest high purity alumina refineries after the $300 million plant received Queensland Government planning approval. On Thursday at the 9.2 hectare site in Yarwun, 10km out of Gladstone, Gladstone MP Glenn Butcher announced Alpha HPA had received the approval from the coordinator general. What this will mean for the Gladstone region is 300 construction jobs when it starts and 120 full time employees in the operational phase, Mr Butcher said. “Blackflag produces a pale ale, Indian pale ale and sour beer, Heads of Noosa specialises in a range of lagers produced using solar power, Diablo Co produces white spirits based ginger beer produced with sugar cane from the Sunshine Coast, and Ohana Winery produces a boutique cider range from apples grown in Stanthorpe.” Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said the festival gave crowds the opportunity to sample some of the best beer and cider from Queensland s best breweries.
Event organiser Jemma Tangohau said it was unknown how much revenue was generated on the day but the event’s production costs would go towards Gladstone’s Harbour Festival in April.
Thirty-seven new medical interns have arrived in Central Queensland clinics, including Gladstone and Rockhampton, in order to relieve overworked staff.
CQ Health welcomed the interns last week with the graduates primed and ready to start their careers in the region.
The new doctors did a week of intensive orientation at Rockhampton Hospital before setting
off to join clinical teams across the region.
Interns will do rotations across Rockhampton, Gladstone and Capricorn Coast hospitals, as well as general practice rotations at Emerald Medical Group and Theodore Medical Centre.
