Do you know of an outstanding young member of the Gladstone Region who should be recognised for their contributions and achievements to the community?
Nominations are now open for the 2021 Mayorâs Youth Breakfast, an invite-only event coinciding with Queensland Youth Week Celebrations.
The breakfast will be held at Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre on Tuesday, April 13 for young people aged 12 to 25 years.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett encouraged community members to identify and nominate young achievers within the region. Gladstone mayor Matt Burnett at the Mayor s Youth Breakfast 2019.
âYoung people may be acknowledged for sporting, cultural, employment or academic achievements, or for their involvement in volunteering, mentoring or fundraising,â Cr Burnett said.
“I don’t know anyone who didn’t come out of there smiling.”
The community musical required more than 100 people working offstage to make the night run as smoothly as possible including the crew, production team, orchestra, staff and ushers.
Mayor Matt Burnett said rehearsals took up to 10 hours per week, with most of the cast and crew giving up every Wednesday night and Sunday for nearly six months.
“This was a huge commitment for the cast and crew, who had to balance their day-to-day lives and work commitments in order to chase their passion for stage performance,” Cr Burnett said.
Designed around the theme âStarry Nightâ, Mayor Burnett said this yearâs Santos GLNG Mayorâs Charity Ball was set to be a night to remember.
âThis is a fantastic event that brings the community together to experience a gala evening of food, wine, music and dancing, all the while fundraising for local charities,â Cr Burnett said.
âThere will be entertainment from one of Brisbaneâs top cover groups Hamilton Band, who will be supported by local musicians, while attendees can enjoy a three-course meal, silent auctions, live auctions and much more.
âMost importantly, the night is all about raising vital funds for four very worthy local organisations, who were chosen after consultation with the Mayorâs Ball committee.â

The Dreggs, supported by a swath of local and national talent, brought the house down with a series of original acoustic songs. The hundreds in attendance were even treated to unreleased music which is set to premier on their upcoming album to be released later this year. The Dreggs band members Paddy Mcrae and Zane Harris said Gladstone was a quaint town where they had found time to relax and they would like to return.
