CHRISTIANSBURG â McKenzie Kyle Hellman should serve two life sentences plus another 45 years in prison for encouraging his girlfriend to sexually abuse her 2-year-old son, a Montgomery County jury recommended Monday after finding Hellman guilty of five child sex and pornography charges.
The 27-year-old Christiansburg man also is accused of killing the toddler in a separate incident and still faces counts of second-degree murder and child abuse. These are to be tried in a separate, not-yet-scheduled court proceeding.
At the conclusion of Mondayâs jury trial, Circuit Court Judge Robert Turk set a sentencing hearing for June 29. It will be up to Turk to decide whether to accept the juryâs recommendation or to impose a different sentence.
