In line with new COVID-19 vaccination guidelines, Mackay Hospital and Health Service now gives both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines.
The Pfizer vaccine is given to people aged 49 years or under and people aged 50 and over receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Mackay HHS has vaccinated more than 2250 people against COVID-19 since March this year.
COVAX lead Julie Rampton said the hospital’s first doses of Pfizer arrived on Wednesday.
“Our COVAX team and pharmacy staff have been working hard to prepare for the vaccine arrival as the storage and administration process is different to AstraZeneca,” the Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery said.

A fire at the Northern Beaches Bowls club had patrons evacuated from the venue on Friday night.
Emergency services including three fire crews and paramedics were called to the club on Rosewood Drive about 11.43pm.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency services spokeswoman said the fire was located in the bathroom, with reports of some patrons were attempting to extinguish the flames with a garden hose.
One man was taken to Mackay Base Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
He was in a stable condition.
The fire is not believed to have been deliberately lit.
The QFES spokeswoman said fire investigation officers were not required to attend the scene.

A male driver has been taken to hospital after his water truck collided with a cow at Nebo overnight.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a crew was called to the scene at Braeside Road at 9.45pm.
She said a 38-year-old man was driving the water truck when it struck a cow and rolled onto its side.
The spokeswoman said the cow was euthanised as a result.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man was taken Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition with head and neck injuries. mackay crash
