Michigan kicks off effort to reduce road worker deaths, work zone injuries
Clinton Township Brandyn Spychalski found a sense of purpose in his road construction career. But the job came with its risks.
He often shared stories with his family of drivers failing to pay attention, neglecting barriers and signs and the workers themselves, recalled his mother, Leslie Fonzi-Lynch.
Spychalski was struck by a flat-bed truck near Lexington in Sanilac County in the summer of 2017 when the truck s driver veered to avoid a stopped car in a construction zone. Spychalski was crushed against his work truck on the side of the road.

The coroner s Mount Clemens office A former investigator for the Macomb County Medical Examiner s Office has filed a federal lawsuit alleging she was subjected at work to a steady stream of racism, sexual harassment and public displays of graphic pornography, including nude photos on computer screen savers. At one point, someone brought a penis birthday cake to the office, which sat around for days. Anjanette Beaver of Macomb County, who is described in the suit as a Native American woman, complained to management, but was met with retaliation, and eventually forced to quit last month because of untenable working conditons, according to the suit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

That’s why they’re expanding the list of people who can get the vaccines in Macomb County. Starting Saturday, anybody 16 or older with disabilities can call and set up and appointment.
“Basically, what we did was decided that these people with disabilities and other family or caregivers and even their guardians at times have an opportunity to go ahead and sign up for the vaccine,” Hackel said. “16 or older. We’re working with our school districts, to identify folks who might be in those categories.”

(WXYZ) â The state has provided 7 Action News data that shows 21 COVID hubs were set up last April inside nursing homes to take patients who were leaving hospitals but too sick to go home. More than half of these hubs are in Metro Detroit. The map shows their locations and how much they were paid, the state says, in federal COVID funds:
