Indigenous Peoples’ Day
The remaining 24 articles will be voted on and debated June 28. Those include petition articles related to plans to turn the golf course at Cape Cod Country Club into a solar overlay district and a petition article to change “Christopher Columbus Day” to “Indigenous Peoples’ Day.”
Some of the 24 articles slated for the June session could be approved ahead of schedule through a blanket vote on April 12, if members opt not to hold them for discussion, Assistant Town Manager Peter Johnson Staub said in an email. Most of the petition articles, however, will not be considered for approval without debate so that there can be a full, in-person debate on June 28.
Wicked Local
Of all the items on the Select Board s agenda tonight, the one most likely to draw in the crowds virtually is the discussion about whether the town should stop recognizing Columbus Day and start honoring Indigenous Peoples Day.
The bitterly disputed item passed in March, when it was on the ballot as a non-binding referendum, but the board will vote on the matter when it meets tonight. The Select Board has set aside an hour, from 6:30 to 7:30, on its agenda.
To join in Citizen s Speak, residents seeking to participate in Citizen Speak or any other agenda item should email sel@wellesleyma.gov prior to the meeting and a number will be assigned for speakers. All residents seeking to participate will call into 1-781-489-7525, (Conference Line) and await the announcement of their assigned number to speak. Individuals wishing to participate who have not received a number will be asked at the end of the agenda item if they would like to speak.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Portland police said they detained a crowd of about 100 protesters Friday night when violence broke out during a demonstration, halting the march minutes after it started. Thirteen people were charged with crimes.
The mass detainment shortly after 9 p.m. Friday in the Pearl District appeared to an example of kettling, a police tactic of surrounding a crowd and containing people within a perimeter, The Oregonian/OregonLive.com reported.
