Justice companies owe nearly $100,000 in property taxes to one county

WELCH – Companies owned by Gov. Jim Justice and his family owe nearly $100,000 in 2020 property taxes in McDowell County. According to information from the McDowell County Sheriff’s office, the companies have at least seven tax tickets totaling $96,061.23 if they’re paid by July 31. The bulk of that amount is one for Bluestone Coal Corp. for $50,733.49. The next largest is one for Pay Car Mining for $14,891.51, and the third largest is one for Justice Highwall Mining for $10,516.84. The others are for Justice Low Seam Mining ($8,738.55), Bluestone Coal Corp. ($7,879.29), National Resources ($1,755.79) and Bluestone Industries ($1,545.76). The tax bill for National Resources is for real estate, and the one for Bluestone Industries is for six vehicles. The rest seem to be for business machinery.

Illegal activity, however, is usually never a part of the plan. One woman in North Carolina recently found out that crime is not a great family outing after she reportedly brought her baby along as she broke into a home. Jenny Annette Skidmore Reel was arrested following an alleged break-in on June 21 in Marion, Robert Watson of the McDowell County Sheriff s Office said that officers responded to the home after receiving reports that someone had broken in. When they arrived, they found the 28-year-old Reel, from Marion, at the scene with pills in her possession.

Deputy Robert Watson of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said multiple charges were filed against Jenny Annette Skidmore Reel, 28, of Marion, including breaking and entering and child abuse, news outlets reported. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a home in Marion on June 21 after a report of a break-in. The sheriff’s office said deputies found Reel at the scene and found she had stolen medication, a power saw, coins, knives, socks and jewelry. Deputies say she had her son with her, and she had pills in her possession, the sheriff’s office said.
