FLINT, MI - Some Flint City Council members are vowing to fight a proposed historic settlement of Flint water crisis lawsuits and about 30 residents rallied to urge them to do just that on Friday. Dec. 11.
Council members questioned attorneys for more than five hours in a special meeting Thursday, in advance of a scheduled vote on Flint’s portion of the $641-million settlement next week.
The victim of a hit-and-run Monday night in Pontiac has died from her injuries.
Vanessa Deanes, 29, died Tuesday after being hospitalized following the crash on Perry Street near Montcalm. The Oakland County Sheriffâs Office said she was struck shortly before 6 p.m. as she crossed the street, outside a designated crosswalk.
The driver is a 31-year-old Pontiac man who fled the scene but was arrested about four hours later, thanks to a tip from a witness, the sheriffâs office said. The tipster stated he knew where the car involved in the crash could be found, then met with a sergeant on Maynard Court and pointed out a 2017 Chevrolet Impala as it was being loaded into a trailer.
