Two McLeod doctors will keep wearing masks and social distancing after receiving COVID-19 vaccine

FLORENCE, S.C. — At least two doctors at McLeod Health don t plan on changing their non-hospital routines like masks and social distancing after they receive the second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.  Drs. Jeremy Robertson, Dale Lusk and Peter Hyman were the first doctors at McLeod Health to receive the first of two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday afternoon. All three were injected with a vaccine produced by Pfizer at a news conference held at the Medical Medical Park East.  The World Health Organization describes a vaccine as being something like a shortcut for the body s immune system. In essence, without a vaccine, the human body is exposed to a pathogen like a virus or a bacteria and then develops a way to get rid of the pathogen. A vaccine contains either a weakened version of the pathogen or the blueprints to tell the body how to get rid of the pathogen. Thus, when the body is exposed, it already knows how to get rid of the pathogen.
