Even though the state of Iowa opened the eligibility for COVID-19 vaccines on Monday, it was surprisingly calm in Marshall County. Marshall County Public Health Nurse Pat Thompson said Monday was relatively uneventful, despite vaccine eligibility being opened to everyone age 16 and older. There were a couple cruxes in the mix for Marshall County, however. First, the supply would not begin to meet the demand. The county has continued to receive shipments of 500 doses each week and that number has not increased. Second, only people who are 18 and older can get vaccinated in Marshall County.

$18 million McFarland clinic coming to Marshalltown | News, Sports, Jobs

The health care provider plans to begin construction no later than May 1. McFarland will break ground in April for a brand new, $18 million facility off of East Merle Hibbs Boulevard on the south side of town, east of Walmart. Deb Wollam, the executive director of McFarland Clinic in Marshalltown, said the clinic purchased nine acres of land for the 66,000-square-foot building, designed by RMH Architects of Ames. “Construction will begin no later than May 1,” she said. “It is three levels, three stories.”

Plan Zoning Commission talks future, growth | News, Sports, Jobs

jfisher@timesrepublican.com Kendig-Keast Collaborative presented plans to make Marshalltown’s zoning codes simpler to use for staff and for the public to understand during a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Thursday. City planner Caleb Knutson and Housing and Urban Development Director Michelle Spohnheimer have been meeting with the firm based out of Indiana since the fall. Representatives from the firm have also been meeting with community stakeholders and examining the city’s zoning ordinances and plans to create a comprehensive plan. “Your comprehensive plan is the backbone for the planning effort of the city,” said Brian Mabry, principal-in-charge with Kendig-Keast.
