Addressing presspersons, he said: “About 90% cases being reported in Dakshina Kannada are from Mangaluru and Bantwal areas. Of those cases, 90% of cases again are from Mangaluru City Corporation area.” Asking people to cooperate to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Deputy Commissioner said that there is no shortage of vaccines in the district which received 20,000 doses of Covishield and 2,000 doses of Covaxin on Wednesday.

A Home Guard discharging duty as COVID-19 marshal on a bus in Mangaluru.   They will go to work in city today enforcing wearing of face masks and social distancing in public places Nearly a month after it was announced, Home Guards will start work on Monday as COVID-19 marshals to enforce wearing of face masks and keeping social distancing in public places in urban areas of Dakshina Kannada. They will work along with bill collectors and health inspectors of Mangaluru City Corporation. Corporation Commissioner Akshy Sridhar said that Home Guards were on election duty in Kerala and hence, there was delay in deploying them as COVID-19 marshals. While 50 Home Guards have been assigned to the corporation, 30 commenced work on Saturday itself creating awareness among the general public. “A detailed guideline for their working will be released shortly,” Mr. Sridhar told

Mohammed Akif MANGALURU: A 12-year-old boy was found dead 500 metres from his house in Mangaluru on Sunday morning, about 10 hours after he left home saying he wanted to meet a friend. Police suspect the boy may have been a victim of the now-banned PUBG videogame. Police have picked up a 17-year-old boy for questioning in the case. It is suspected that the boys were playing the game together after an accidental meeting at a mobile store in Mangaluru three months ago. It could not be confirmed if the boys were playing PUBG or one of its many variants flooding the cyberspace after the original game was proscribed last year.
