Manama : , Feb 21 (IANS) Preparations for the Bahrain 2021 Asian Youth Para Games took a big step forward when a delegation from the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) visited Manama, Bahrain, met with members of the Local Organising Committee and took part in a ceremony to mark the formal signing of the Host City Contract.
APC President Majid Rashed appointed as UNICEF s National Ambassador from UAE 01/25/21
In a major fillip to the Asian Paralympic family and to the Paralympic Movement in the region, APC President Majid Rashed has been appointed as a United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) first National Ambassador from the United Arab Emirates.
The appointment has come months after the Asian Paralympic Committee signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNICEF to promote the rights of children and youth with disabilities, and to work together for their greater inclusion into society.
In his new role on behalf of UNICEF, Rashed will help give children a voice and bring their needs to the attention of decision-makers. He will contribute to UNICEF’s advocacy and work to achieve all child rights.

Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Sports Council, has urged two-time Paralympic champion Mohammed Khamis to continue his performances to show the best of the United Arab Emirates on the international stage.
Paralympic powerlifter Khamis met with Sheikh Mansoor at a reception, also attended by Dubai Sports Council vice-chairman Mattar Al Tayer.
Secretary-general of the Council, Saaed Hareb and Majid Rashed, the current President of the Asian Paralympic Committee, were also present.
Sheikh Mansoor called Khamis an extraordinary ambassador for the UAE and said that the leadership in UAE Para-sport has provided athletes with unlimited financial and moral support.
