San Antonio businesses are working through changes brought on by the state s latest order to end masks and a Southtown mainstay is distancing itself from the ultimate mask burning party, but is defending the middle ground approach to policy.
Locals readied themselves for the change by building lists throughout the week. One side promoted establishments requiring masks, while another found spots where mask policy is left up to personal choice. An Instagram account catering to the latter, called @unmaskedsanantonio, touts the platform as the ultimate mask burning party with more than 1,000 followers. The Smithsonian Institute marked March 8 by telling the stories of changemakers You May Not Know.
While Tenayuca may not be a familiar name outside of Texas, her fight is revered in San Antonio and similarly aligns with the inception of International Women s Day.
