Colgate-Palmolive has reported buoyant fourth-quarter results, capping off a strong year for the maker of toothpaste, soap, and pet food.
Group net sales in the 13 weeks to 31 December increased by 7.5% to $4.32bn, supported by investment in its advertising and e-commerce activities. All its main divisions recorded robust growth with North America up 10% and Europe growing 14%. Only Latin America (-2.5%) and Africa/Eurasia (-1.5%) disappointed.
Despite higher raw and packaging material costs, increased advertising investment, and overhead expenses in some markets, operating profits were up 4% to $969m.
Sales for the year as whole grew 5% to $16.47bn, with operating profit up 9.3% to $3.89bn.
