Sand Canyon Resort Further Discussed Before Planning Commission, End Date Extended
The proposed Sand Canyon Resort development returned before the Santa Clarita Planning Commission for a review focused primarily on the project’s potential environmental impacts in the community on Tuesday evening.
City staff presented their draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to the commission, which outlines the project’s impact in more than a dozen areas.
The project, also referred to as the “Sand Canyon Resort” project, would see the Sand Canyon Country Club add a three-story hotel with 241 rooms, a wedding hall, 23 villas, restaurants, a spa, a minigolf course and other amenities to the facility.
On Tuesday, commissioners are expected to review the project’s
draft environmental impact report and hold a public hearing to hear from developer Steve Kim and hear from the public.
The project, proposed on the northeast corner of Sand Canyon Road and Robinson Ranch Road, calls for transforming Kim’s Sand Canyon Country Club into a resort and spa, with features including: four three-story hotels; 14 two-story villas; multiple dining options and outdoor recreation for trails, swimming, tennis and pickleball and an existing 27-hole golf course, as well as the removal of 21 non-heritage oak trees and a zone change from “open space” to “community commercial” for two of the four proposed site lots.
Los Angeles County Public Health on Friday confirmed 374 new deaths and 692 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, with 27,284 total cases in the Santa Clarita Valley. Planning Commission To Discuss Sand Canyon Resort, New Henry Mayo Patient Tower
The City of Santa Clarita Planning Commission is set to discuss plans for the proposed Sand Canyon Resort next Tuesday, as well as a new patient tower for Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
The hearing is expected to include a presentation from city staff providing an overview on the potential impact of the projects and testimony from the applicants as well as the public, beginning Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The applicant, the existing Sand Canyon Country Club, is requesting approval of several items, including but not limited to several use permits, development and landscape plan reviews, a tentative tract map, and a zone change, for the construction of Sand Canyon Resort to redevelop nine holes of the Mountain Course at Sand Canyon Country Club.
